Too often, geographical information is beyond reach of people, and even within medium and large sized offices not everybody is allowed to see, query and print updated maps.
The most efficient solution to this problem is web mapping, i.e. the distribution of spatial information via a web server; final users can therefore easily reach all the information their administrators make available, using only their preferred web browser (Firefox, Internet Explorer, etc.).
Among the many applications:
- urban and landscape planning
- infomobility
- tourist and citizen information
- protected areas management
- geomarketing
We use several development frameworsk, among which p.mapper, an AJAX application, for which we collaborate to the development and provide technical support. p.mapper is based on MapServer, the most stable and fastest web mapping engine available. As all software used by us, it has a free and open source licence, not requiring licencing fees. As a consequence, the total cost of the solution ready to use, with all the necessary customizations, is always much smaller than that of proprietary software.
It is fully compliant with international Open Geospatial Consortium standards and with data formats commonly used, both vector and raster (shapefile, jpg, GeoTIFF, etc.); it can be interfaced with several different databases (e.g. Oracle, PostgreSQL, etc.).
